Little Cayman island is the smallest of the three Cayman islands the most tranquil and least developed. The island is the perfect honeymoon destination for lovers wanting to escape civilization. At only 1 mile wide and 10 miles long and a population of only 170 the island offers untouched beaches, wilderness, and solitude that is becoming rarer in the Caribbean. Privacy and relaxation come to mind often on little Cayman. Take a selfie on a empty beach to send back to your envious friends that will look like you are the last people in paradise. Want to take a road trip, rent a scooter (beware of iguanas) and head to the south hole lagoon for a swim in the cool shaded water.
If you want to be Robinson Crusoe then take a row out to the deserted island of Owen Island, where you can truly experience untouched nature and spend a relaxing day as castaways. Now if you want to mix privacy with party then visit the island during Pirates week and cook off to enjoy gourmet food, reggae, and soca.
A Little History
Discovered in 1503 Little Cayman island as well as its two sister islands Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac share a rich history. The Cayman islands became a favorite stop for hungry sea men that wanted to dine on the abundance of sea turtles. The famous pirate Black beard real name Edward Teach used the islands remoteness to plunder cargo ships.
Later as the islands were colonized, plantations sprang up growing sugarcane and tobacco. In the 1960-70’s the island developed rapidly with banking and tourism driving growth.
The Cayman islands, West Indies are independently a British Crown Colony that enjoys the highest standard of living in the Caribbean.
