The entire territory was viciously hit with a huge hurricane in September of 2017 but now it is totally okay to visit. In fact, visiting and churning tourism dollars into this recovering city could really help Puerto Rico get back on its feet after a time of extreme devastation.
Why Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico was hit by devastating Hurricane Maria in September 2017 and since has been recovering.
There is one thing a city needs in its recovering from being completely demolished and that is actually more tourism.
A Forbes article discussing the state of Puerto Rico after Maria quotes the acting executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Carla Campos, who says that “The best thing you can do is fly over, stay in our hotels, go shopping.”
Campos says that tourism is “one sector of the economy that can quickly bounce back.”
The community has worked together to try to get things back up to normal working order.
Many of the larger hotels and resorts have used this devastation to completely renovate or renew their facilities. This is a win-win for everyone involved.
This does mean, however, that some of the larger lodging facilities might be closed, so definitely plan ahead.
Puerto Rico offers a spectacular variety of experiences. There are attractions to suit any taste from casinos to history museums to gardens and beaches.
Puerto Rico is truly a culture full of rich history and endless beauty to discover. It’s great for singles, families, and groups of all kinds.

Beaches in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico offers some of the best in beaches and marine life in the Caribbean. It is truly a beach lover’s destination spot and there are tons of different beaches to spend time at when you make the visit to Puerto Rico.
Some of our favorite beaches include Isla Verde Beach, Carolina, Puerto Rico, Condado Beach in Condado, San Juan, Balneario El Escambron in San Juan, and La Posita in Loiza, Puerto Rico.
These are all prime spots for beach getaways and all are within a short drive from major sites in San Juan.
For those spending time on Puerto Rico’s other islands, we will divulge our favorite beach spots in Culebra. You must take a ferry ride or additional plane ride to reach the island of Culebra, but it is definitely worth it.
Flamenco beach is by far the number one beach attraction on the island of Culebra and for very good reasons. It offers azure waters, cleanliness and it is never really crowded, even during the busy season.
Playa Tamarindo offers exceptional waters for snorkeling with sea turtles, bringing your family, renting kayaks, and it is easy to access by car.
Other notable beaches on the island of Culebra are Punta Soldado Beach and Playa Soni/Zoni Beach. If you are able to make the trip to Culebra, it is definitely one of our favorite beach spots in Puerto Rico.
Let us hop on over to the other main island in Puerto Rico, Vieques. It is located south of Culebra and offers perfect bays, crystal clear waters, and amazing reef snorkeling for people of all ages.
There is a famous beach made of black sand called Playa Negra that is must for romantic walks on the beach. You must hike through luscious jungle to get there, but the awe-inspiring solitude is worth the trek.
Other amazing beaches located on the island include Playa Caracas, Bahia de la Chiva and Playa Navio.
